The Wamego City Hall has been located at the southeast corner of 5th and Lincoln in the center of downtown Wamego for many years. It occupies two separate buildings, originally a bank and an office building. Insufficient use of existing space, previous fire damage and reorganization of several city services led the city commission to authorize a complete redesign and remodel of the facility for the fast growing regional community.
Interior and exterior renovation incorporated ADA access to all levels, new customer service and business offices and staff offices on the main floor with city commission chambers and Parks and Recreation offices on the second floor. Part of the basement is used for storage while a large multi-use space is available for various community functions.
New interior space, finishes, staircase and all new windows and exterior paint have allowed each building to be recognizable as its own entity yet function as one. This project was a recipient of a Governor’s Award from the Kansas Department of Commerce Main Street Program in 2007.
